Tips for Staying Active in Covid

Although we were all very motivated to get out and exercise when the pandemic first hit, we have heard a lot of reports of people losing their motivation recently and decided to try and give a few tips to help get back on track.

  1. Use your chores:Household tasks like scrubbing, sweeping, dusting, and vacuuming can all add up when done at a brisk pace. They can work the muscles in your arms and legs.
    _
  2. Exercise during commercial breaks:Many of us are watching more TV. Make the commercials and credits count by adding in some squats, star jumps, push-ups, or lunges.
    _
  3. Take advantage of pauses during the day:Take advantage of times when you’re waiting for something to finish or start (like food on the stove, oven, or microwave. You can fire off some arm/ leg exercises or practice some before the kettle boils.
    _
  4. Move around the house more:Walk around while you’re making a phone call perhaps. Take an extra lap or two around the house if you have to put something away. If you have stairs, go up and down them a few times throughout the day (have a number in your head every day on how many times you can do it).
    _
  5. Turn your living room into a dance floor: Get the music going and go for it!
    _
  6. If you have an activity tracker: Aim to take 10,000 steps (jog on the spot, move around anywhere in your house. Have a competition with your family/ friends to make it fun.
    _
    _
  7. Make it routine: Even though you may not have a normal routine during lockdown it doesn’t mean you can’t create a healthy routine for yourself. Plan ahead and organise your day to wake up, eat and exercise in a routine that creates healthy habits.
    _
  8. Set goals. Set yourself a weekly challenge to achieve, make it challenging but fun and achievable.
    _
  9. Get social: With everything feeling so isolating we can use our exercise time to catch up with friends and family. You are allowed to go for a walk with one other person as long as you stay socially distanced, so make the most of the opportunity. If you don’t live walking distance from your friends have a walk and talk on the phone.
    _
  10. Do our Active One Home Exercise Programs or call us for a zoom consul/ telephone session! We can write you up a home exercise program for the week/ some simple movements you can achieve throughout the day with those pauses or during commercial breaks to do!
